What is Implant Dentistry?
Implant dentistry is a procedure to artificially replace a missing tooth. A titanium post is inserted into the jawbone during a small surgical procedure and this closely replicates a natural tooth root. The post is left to heal for several months, during which time new bone cells will grow on and around the post, firmly anchoring it into the jawbone. This process is called osseointegration. The next step is to attach an abutment to the implant post and this is used to support the implant crown. Dental implants can be used to replace single or multiple teeth, or to secure or replace full dentures.
